One of our top goals as an HSA is to bring the Merion Community together in fun ways. Here are some of the activities and events that occur throughout the year. We hope you'll join us!

Art Goes to School This is an HSA/Interschool Council activity for all elementary schools in which a portfolio of selected artworks is shared by parents/guardians with the students at their school. Parent/guardian volunteers from each school attend training sessions to learn about the artwork and what should be covered in the presentations. Then parents/guardians run sessions with groups of classes at their school.
Artist in Residence Through an HSA sponsored grant, Merion brings in a resident artist or scholar who has been approved by the executive board of the HSA. The resident then works with the children to create an installation piece in the school. Past creations have included a screen printing/batik artist (see the wall hangings in the library) and a professional choreographer who conducted a program integrating math/geometry, art (using a piece from the Art Goes to School portfolio), and dance.
Book Fair The HSA arranges an annual book fair with Scholastic Book Company, typically in the fall. The children visit the book fair with their classrooms and there are also option evening shopping events where parents/guardians can come into the school and shop with their students.
Community Service The community service program’s mission is to extend Merion’s reach into the community, teach good stewardship to children, and provide another opportunity for community among Merion families through service projects. This committee organizes several events and charitable drives throughout the year.
Cultural Heritage Night Enjoy the tastes, sounds, and arts of the many cultures and family traditions that are represented at Merion Elementary at one of our most popular events.  All Merion families are welcome to participate in sharing their cultural heritage. Those who wish to share will set up a booth in the school on the night of the event. Their booth will share information about their cultural heritage and can include traditional food or beverages to share with the Merion students and their parents.
Fall Picnic Fall picnic is an evening for Merion families to gather and socialize out on the school lawn. Food is available for purchase, families bring their own picnic and enjoy music and each other.
Fourth Grade Activities A series of activities and events are planned every year for our 4th graders as we send them off to middle school.  Activities include class trip, lawn signs, a party, special 4th grade yearbook, and much more!
